"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology or FIRST is a non-profit charity corporation. The corporation licenses teams of students who compete at competitions sponsored by FIRST; the teams are usually affiliated with a school or other youth organization. FIRST encourages community involvement. Teams often gain sponsorship's from local businesses and people. The corporation it's self is sponsored by large companies like Google and National Instruments. It is also held in high regard by the government, congressmen and even the president appearing at competitions via prerecorded messages if not in person. While FIRST Robotics Competition, is a highly competitive environment, it also lives up to being the hardest fun you’ll ever have. FIRST Robotics Competition teams are encouraged to help each other, and share their knowledge, experience, and even parts and tools. Teams follow FIRST values: Gracious Professionalism®, and Coopertition®. Gracious Professionalism, is “a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others and respects individuals and the community.” Coopertition, or Cooperative Competition, is the idea that in the face of fierce competition, teams should help and cooperate with each other.
