"The FIRST Tech Challenge is more than a robotics program. We are a community focused on building a better world for tomorrow by engaging students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)."
"FTC is about teaching students the value of hard work, innovation and creativity. It goes beyond competition by teaching teenagers the importance of working together, sharing ideas and treating each other with respect and dignity."

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), is an international robotics competition organized by FIRST. FIRST Tech Challenge combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Students grades 7-12 participate in teams of up to 10. Students build robots up to 18in x 18in x 18in in size, that can complete a challenge, which changes annually. Teams are given a standard kit-of-parts, but they are encouraged to buy or make specialized parts.

History

FIRST Tech Challenge started in 2005 as a pilot program with 130 team participating in 6 regional tournaments. Since then the program has vastly expanded. In 2017, there were 2,850 teams participating in FIRST Robotics Competition; over 1,200 in the United States, and over 70 in Canada alone. Over the years, FIRST has attracted many sponsors, to help fund their programs.
